The lessons in this section will teach you multiple ways of retouching your photographs. There are a number of reasons for retouching photographs, from color correction to fine art. These areas will be covered using a traditional approach, a digital approach, and also some creative ideas using non-traditional mediums and techniques to help spur you on to your own creative concepts.

There are many kinds of photographic mediums used to color correct images. The main thing to remember is layering. It is not wise to assume you can guess the perfect color match or density on your first try. You will end up with a dark spot on your print. At that point, you will be learning a lot about layering in order to fix your mistake. These lessons will help you avoid some common mistakes and will teach you how to achieve successful results as well as give you some tips and tricks to get some very interesting and unusual effects.

Professional retouchers are equipped with color corrected lights, light tables, cotton gloves, cotton swabs, dyes, sprays, pastels, brushes and many other tools as shown below. Directions to build a light table are included in "Building a Studio" section.
